High school softball is a game that requires recording 21 outs.  The 21st out proved to be troubling for Waverly Shell Rock as 10th ranked Perry fought off an upset minded Go-hawk sqaud winning 4-3 Saturday night at the PAC in a 4A Regional semifinal.  Trailing 1-0 and down to their final out and strike of the season, Perry’s Adrianna Eastman added to the PAC’s memorable moments when she launched a line drive into the right field corner.  WSR right fielder Veronica Perez just missed it on a diving attempt allowing the ball to roll all the way into the corner.  Eastman sprinted around the bases and in a gusty move by Head Coach Tina Kenney was sent home and scored as the Go-hawks mishandled the cutoff.  The run sent the game to extra innings where Perry scored three more times in the top of the 8th to inning to hang on for the 1 run victory.

Rachel Kinney and Emma Olejniczak delivered key 2-out RBI hits in the 8th inning with Olejniczak’s 2-run flare into left field proving to be the game winner.  The Go-hawks made it interesting in the bottom of the 8th inning when Sarah Fanter clubbed a 2-run home run to cut the Perry lead to 4-3.  However, like she has so many times in her career, Olejniczak was able to get the next batter to fly out to right and send Perry back into a Regional final, one win away from a repeat trip to the state tournament.

Olejniczak allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 13 Go Hawks.

Perry will travel to Carlisle Tuesday night for a third meeting with the Cats.  The winner will qualify for the state championships in Ft Dodge.  Shawn Kenney will have the play by play on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com beginning at 6:45.
