The Greene County Board of Trustees recently agreed to continue to provide public health services for the next fiscal year.
The standard document is an agreement between the Greene County Board of Health and the Greene County Medical Center to provide the core public health provisions including public health nursing, home care aid and other essential services for county residents. However, the medical center and the Greene County Board of Supervisors have been discussing who should shoulder the responsibility of public health moving forward. Medical center CEO Carl Behne says the discussions have been positive, but he says the medical center isn’t the one responsible for public health.
“We can share our thoughts and opinions on what can help make a successful partnership. But really at the end of the day the authority around services for public health land with the Board of Health and then in partnership with the Board of Supervisors as they are the body that’s required to provide a public health service to the community members of the county.”
The Board of Health and the Supervisors will meet on July 11th.
