Now that summer is in full swing, Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse has a few reminders for people to keep in mind as they are traveling around town.
He urges everyone to pay more attention to intersections with the increased amount of youth outside. He also encourages pedestrians to stay on the sidewalks, but if there aren’t any sidewalks, then individuals should stay as close to the curb as possible if they are walking on the street. Also they should always walk against traffic so approaching vehicles can be seen. Clouse explains what individuals need to remember when using bicycles.
“On a bicycle, you still are held to obey the same traffic ordinances as a vehicle. You should be stopping at your stop signs, you should be yielding at intersections. All those things still apply even though you’re on a bicycle and not in a motorized vehicle.”
He reminds everyone that there are more youth outside during the summer months and so he urges everyone to be more aware and help protect children so they can return to school in August.
