The Greene County High School softball team won once and lost twice on Saturday at the South Hamilton tournament. Greene County won 6-3 over Southeast Valley (Cowrie) in game one, then lost to Iowa Falls-Alden 3-1, and to Interstate-35 (Truro) 8-0, and enter the last week of their regular season at 9-19 overall.
Samantha Hardaway was the winning pitcher in her first varsity start of the season. She went six innings and allowed no earned runs on six hits and two walks in defeating SEV, ranked number 15 in Class 3A. She had four strikeouts and overcame four Greene County errors.
The Rams had six hits as well with Hardaway leading the way at the plate with two singles and three runs driven in Kyla Beyers had a two run single and Izzy Bravard had the other RBI, although she did not have a hit. Hannah Promes and Megan Durbin hit doubles with a single by Megan Carey.
Jenna Byers pitched all seven innings vs. IF-A and took the loss. All three runs were earned on nine hits and one walk. Beyers fanned the Cadets seven times.
The Rams had six hits in this game as well with two for Bravard, and one each for Carey, Promes, Durbin, and Kassie Lamoureux. All were singles and Promes had the lone RBI.
The loss to I-35 saw the Rams get just two hits with singles for Carey and Promes.
Promes was the pitcher and she went five innings and allowed six earned runs on nine hits and four walks. She recorded four strikeouts.
The Rams host Nevada tonight in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play at the City diamond on East Lincolnway. Greene County won 8-3 in the first meeting with the Cubs.
