Solid pitching by senior Hannah Promes and an offense that reached double figures in both hits and runs scored led Greene County to a 10-5 high school softball victory last night in Roland vs. Roland-Story. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team improved to 6-16 overall and 3-9 in the conference in earning a split of the two-game season series with the Norsemen. R-S fell to 10-9 overall and 5-6 in the HOIAC.
Hannah Promes, the only senior on the team, picked up a complete game victory. She allowed just two earned runs on seven hits while walking no one and striking two batters out. The Norsemen scored two runs in the first and another in the second, but the Rams put seven runs on the board in the third and led the rest of the way.
Greene County had 13 hits including multiple hits from four players. Megan Carey singled three times from her lead off position and knocked in a run. Laurin Lyons returned from injury and had a triple and two singles, plus one RBI. Samantha Hardaway doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs, while Promes added two singles and one RBI. Faith Davis doubled and had two runs batted in and Izzy Bravard added a single and one RBI. Megan Durbin also had a base hit.
The pitching of Promes and the offense helped the Rams overcome five errors. R-S was charged with four errors.
The Rams try for their first victory of the season on the home diamond tonight when they host non-conference opponent Manson-Northwest Webster at the City diamond on East Lincolnway. Greene County is 0-6 on the home diamond.
