The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session, though they were short two members.

Council members John Andorf and Dean Berkland were both absent, though the Council still had the requisite quorum to conduct business. Two such items of business included public hearings related to easements between the City and Dallas County Conservation and Tyson Foods. A representative from Tyson described the project, which includes relocating a portion of the Raccoon River Valley Trail to Perry-owned land to make room for a truck turn-around area. No one else spoke during the public hearing, so the Council unanimously approved the easements.

Other resolutions approved include: a contract renewal with Easy Clean for services at the Perry Public Library; the appointments of Rosa Gonzalez and Jeremy Winter to the Public Library Board of Trustees; employee salaries for the 2018 fiscal year; and a permit to J&M Displays for the Perry Fourth of July fireworks display. Additionally, they had readings for ordinances related to urban chickens, which were approved. The ordinances will streamline the process to acquire chickens within City limits. They still need additional readings before being officially adopted.

Finally, the Council approved on first reading an amended ordinance related to stop signs on North Street. With the recent construction on the street, there was originally two four-way stops proposed for the intersections of North Street and 18th and 16th streets. However, the council members doubted the need for four-way stops at this time, so they amended the ordinance to only having two-way stops on North Street.
