DSCN6400The Greene County School Board met in special session Monday.

Following a closed session for the Board to discuss imminent litigation and strategy, the Board unanimously approved the resignation of principal Maranda Van Cleave.

At May’s school board meeting, the Board approved the possible termination of Van Cleave’s contract under Iowa Code for needed staff reduction. The decision was made based off the criteria that Superintendent Tim Christensen used after the Board approved for an administrator reduction in force policy.

This past November, the Board approved the closure of the intermediate building to save the district over $330,000 due to declining enrollment from the previous school year. Reducing an administrator position was also part of the $330,000 shortfall that the Board had to make up.

Christensen released a statement saying: “Van Cleave will receive a settlement payment of $55,000 if she has not secured or been offered regular or part-time employment by August 20, 2017…The District is appreciative of Van Cleave’s efforts in her service to the District.”
