A Churdan man entered an alford plea to an incident that happened last year.
According to court documents, 43-year-old Shane Douglas Olson entered an alford plea to two simple misdemeanors for assault and fifth degree criminal mischief. An alford plea is where a defendant doesn’t admit guilt but there is enough evidence to go to trial.
The plea stems from an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s office on June 17, 2016. A semi-truck driver reported hearing two gunshots after he passed Olson’s residence. Air was coming out of one of the semi’s tires and law enforcement extracted a bullet from inside the trailer tire.
As part of the alford plea, Olson agreed to one-year of informal probation and paying close to $750 in civil penalties, restitution and law enforcement surcharge. Olson was originally charged with felonies for intimidation with a dangerous weapon to provoke fear and misdemeanors for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and criminal mischief.
