Greene County evened its two-game high school baseball season series with Roland-Story on Monday night by downing the Norsemen 1-0 at Story City. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team scored a first inning run and the pitching of Ben Wilkins and the defense made it stand up. The Rams improve to 6-9 overall and 5-6 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. R-S fell to 13-10 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Wilkins struck out a career high 11 batters while walking just two and allowing five hits. He wiggled out of trouble on more than one occasion.

Greene County scored in the first inning when Tom Gannon doubled with one out and Austin Delp singled him home with two away. The Rams finished with five hits including two doubles from Gannon, a double by Wilkins, and singles from Delp and Nick Breon.

The Rams are at home at Allensworth Field in Jefferson tonight with non-conference opponent Manson-Northwest Webster (3-9). The varsity action can be heard around 7:30 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
