Earlier this week, a $1 million project started on the downtown square in Jefferson.
Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney says the $1 million Community Development Block Grant downtown revitalization project is underway. There are 13 buildings involved in the project. The contractor, Pinnacle Construction, began with removing parts of the facade to Muir Embroidery. Raney expects the next two buildings will be MacDonald Insurance and Don’s Ace Hardware.
The $1 million grant from the Iowa Economic Authority is a match with $250,000 commitment from both the City of Jefferson and the building owners.
The project is expected to be completed before Christmas.
