When you think of a daycare, children are what usually come to mind. However, the Perry Lutheran Home is partnering with the new Acorns and Oaks Christian Daycare to provide an intergenerational daycare for children and elderly.
Acorns and Oaks hopes the program will help older adults experience enhanced socialization, stimulated learning, increased emotional support, and improved health. At the same time, they hope children taking part see improved academic performance, enhanced social skills, decreased negative behavior, and increased stability.
The daycare will be located at the Perry Lutheran Home’s main campus, and the public is invited to tour the new space during their Spring Brunch Fundraiser tomorrow morning. The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon, and people are invited to come and go as they please. There will be traditional brunch foods, activities for kids, and free child safety ID’s available. There is no cost for the event, but a freewill offering will be accepted. Proceeds will be used to purchase playground equipment, outdoor toys, and make further modifications to the outdoor playground.
The Acorns and Oaks Christian Daycare is currently accepting applications for children six weeks through five years. The tentative opening date is Monday, July 10th.
