The proposed annexation of over 1,000 acres of land by the City of Adel was originally going to be discussed at a public hearing during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. However, due to an error in the timing of the public hearing notice, it has been pushed back to July.
According to officials, notices must be sent out 14 business days before the public hearing. When originally scheduling the hearing for June 13th, they didn’t take into account Memorial Day as a non-business day, so the hearing had to be rescheduled. The new date for the hearing is July 11th. The venue has also been changed. It will held at 6 p.m. in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School auditorium to accommodate an expected larger crowd than can fit in the Adel Public Library.
Many in the community have voiced their opposition to the proposed annexation, including the Dallas County Board of Supervisors. They recently passed a resolution stating their opposition, which will be presented at the public hearing. They expressed concerns about the City’s ability to extend sewer, water, and emergency services to the area, as well as how the infrastructure will be paid for.
