Greene County held a 3-1 lead over North Polk through four innings on Tuesday night in Jefferson, but the Comets scored five times in the fifth and downed the Rams, 8-4. Greene County fell to 3-6 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action and 4-8 overall. NP improved to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the league.
Junior Wade Adcock doubled and drove in two runs for the Rams. Junior Tom Gannon doubled and singled and both junior Ben Wilkins and senior Trey Tucker added two singles. Tucker drove in a run, as did sophomore Austin Delp. Logan Lansman singled and Ben Bravard added a single and two walks. The Rams left 10 runners on base and they’ve now lost five of their last six.
The Comets had 10 hits and left 11 on base. Wining pitcher Colby Cupp went the first six innings with Matt Antle pitching the seventh. Delp went the first six innings on the mound for the Rams and took the loss.
Greene County remains at home with CMB (Maxwell) today. It’s one varsity game only at 5:15 p.m. as the Raiders don’t have enough players for a JV team. CMB is 2-9 overall and 2-7 in the HOIAC. The Rams won the first meeting 8-0.
