The Guthrie County Extension office encourages local gardeners to consider native plants.

Office Manager Janae Eisentrager says native wildflowers make good additions to woodland gardens and are available at garden centers and in mail-order nurseries. Native ferns do well in shady locations in home landscape. Most ferns perform best in moist soils in partial to heavy shade. Native shrubs can be successfully grown in partial shade, but the only native evergreen shrub that can be successfully grown in shady areas is the Canadian Yew.
