Greene County was a 9-6 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball winner on Friday night in Gilbert vs. the Tigers. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team went 3-1 this week and is now 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
The Rams out hit the Tigers 10-5 and both teams were charged with four errors. Hannah Promes was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Jenna Beyers, who went the first three innings. Promes tossed four innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on three hits. She walked no one and recorded three strikeouts. Beyers gave up four runs, three earned, on two hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Greene County had a big night from number eight hitter Faith Davis, who went three for three, all singles. Promes and Laurin Lyons each had two hits, and one hit apiece for Samantha Hardaway, Megan Carey, and Megan Durbin. Hardaway and Promes hit doubles with one run batted in for each. Carey, Lyons, and Izzy Bravard each had one RBI.
Gilbert won the baseball game 4-1. the Tigers improved to 11-2 and 6-2 in the conference as the Tigers have won eight games in a row. The Rams fall to 3-4 in league play and 4-6 overall after losing three of four games this week. The Rams scored 10 runs in the one victory of the week, but had six runs combined in the three losses.
Ben Wilkins went the first 4-2/3 on the mound vs. Gilbert. He allowed all four runs, but just 2 were earned. Wilkins gave up six hits and one walk, while fanning three batters. Austin Delp went 1-1/3 innings with no runs, two hits, two walks, and one strikeout.
Greene County had seven hits vs. the Tigers and all were singles. Chase Stoline had three hits with two for Logan Lansman, and one each by Wade Adcock and Dylan Fouch.
PCM (Monroe) visits Jefferson on Monday for softball and baseball. KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio will have the baseball game around 7:30 p.m. from Allensworth Field.
