At the most recent meeting of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, they held discussion on possibly switching the company that provides maintenance for the County’s E911 generators.
Previously the generators, which are used at law enforcement facilities around the County, were maintained by Cummins. However, the Board received a bid from 3E, with generator maintenance prices considerably lower than what Cummins was charging. The prices included one figure for preventative maintenance, which is performed once a year and includes changing fluids, filter systems, and other repairs. There was also an additional figure for quarterly maintenance, which is the on-call work on the generators that can be done at any time.
Of the operational generators in the County, the preventative maintenance cost from 3E was much lower than all of Cummins prices, except for two older models. Those cost more from 3E because they don’t have much experience with them and gave the County a worst-case scenario price for them. 3E did have lower prices for all generators when it came to quarterly maintenance, however.
In the end, the Supervisors decided the prices were right and 3E has a good service history, so they unanimously voted to switch from Cummins to 3E as their generator maintenance providers.
