Summer is typically a very busy time for the Perry Parks and Recreation department, and this year is no exception.
While their youth basketball camp has wrapped up already, there are still many events and camps yet to come. In particular, the second week in July is set to be busy for Perry Parks and Rec. From July 10-14, they will be holding their annual youth theater camp. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday, then on Friday they will have two performances. Assistant Parks and Rec Director Becky Halling isn’t sure exactly what the show is called, but she knows it involves surviving a zombie apocalypse. Cost for the theater camp is $20 per person.
The youth soccer camp will also be held that week, from Tuesday through Friday. There are two groups for the camp, the first for kindergarten through 4th graders which will meet from 4-5:15 p.m. each day, the second for 5th through 8th graders meeting from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Cost for the soccer camp is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Both the theater and soccer camp will be located at the McCreary Recreation Center.
In addition to the camps that week, the parks and rec department will be taking part the Dallas County Fair. Halling explains, “We will be participating in the Kids Day at the Dallas County Fair, July 13th. That’s a free program. That’s from 3-4 p.m. at the center stage in Adel, and it’s a fun time. Last year we did pie eating contest and bubblegum blowing contest, and the kids just went crazy. The adults even got involved, and it was awesome! It was a fun day.”
As the summer winds to a close and turns into fall, kids can also look forward to taking part in the rec center’s youth cheerleading, flag football, and volleyball camps. To sign up for any of the camps, visit the McCreary Rec Center or call 515-465-5621.
