The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn girls soccer team is one step closer to a state championship after prevailing in the first round of the state tournament.
The fourth-seeded Tigers defeated the fifth-seeded Saints of Cedar Rapids-Xavier Thursday evening, though they needed extra time to do so. As heard live on FM 107.9 KKRF, ADM and Xavier held each other scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods. That sent the game into penalty kicks, and the Tigers ended up prevailing 3-1.
They will play today at 2:30 p.m. against top-seeded Lewis Central for a chance to advance to the championship game. The game will be played at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines on field nine. The ADM versus Lewis Central match will be broadcast live on FM 107.9 KKRF starting at 2:15 p.m.
