There aren’t many Class 1A teams on the Greene County High School softball schedule, but one of those is scheduled for 5 p.m. today. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team plays a late afternoon contest vs. Class 1A number 13 Glidden-Ralston in Glidden in non-conference action. There are no lights at the field in Glidden, which is just east of the high school, so the varsity teams play first, followed by JV.
The Rams are 2-10 while G-R was 7-3 through Tuesday of this week. The Wildcats will be the sixth team the Rams have faced already this season with a top 15 ranking. Greene County is averaging 4.3 runs per game while giving up an average of 8.6 per game, so the team is allowing twice as many runs as it scores.
G-R is unbeaten in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference. All three losses have been in non-conference action against Class 2A and 3A schools. Greene County is among the largest 3A enrollments in Iowa this year.
