Guthrie County DNR Officer Jeremy King tells Raccoon Valley Radio with residents and visitors to Guthrie County with the warmer weather , they may encounter young animals that may seem abandoned.
He cautions against interacting with the creatures as their mother is likely nearby and is waiting for humans to leave the area before she returns. King says although the urge to interfere with animals that appear helpless can be strong, leaving them alone is more often than not the best thing for them.
“I know folks around here have big hearts and a reputation for caring, but it is very important that we let these things proceed naturally.”
King says that legitimately abandoned animals can be reported to the DNR and handed over to animal rehabilitation specialists.
