The Greene County high school baseball and softball teams have today off from competition, but if the weather cooperates, both varsity squads will be busy the rest of the week.
Coach Mark Sawhill’s baseball Rams are 1-1 overall and in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and they’ll host Roland-Story (Story City) tomorrow night in a contest heard on KG98 and streamed “live” on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Just two games into the season the Rams gave up one run to PCM in a 1-0 season opening loss, then blanked CMB (Maxwell) 8-0 in the second game of the season. Tomorrow night’s game will be the home opener at Allensworth Field. The Rams are in Des Moines on Wednesday to face Saydel, then they go to Winterset Thursday before hosting South Hamilton (Jewell) on Friday night.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s softball team is 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the HOIAC. The Rams’ four opponents are a combined 12-3 and three of the four are ranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The softball Rams host R-S Tuesday, go to Saydel Wednesday, have Thursday off, then are at home Friday with SH, before playing in the Bondurant-Farrar tournament on Saturday in Bondurant.
