Perry senior Jesus Rodriguez recorded a hat trick Saturday afternoon powering Perry past Bondurant Farrar 4-0 in a Class 2A substate final at Dewey Field.  The win secures Perry one of eight state spots in the class 2A state field..

Rodriguez put Perry on the board less than 10 minutes into the first half as he scored off a Mikey Velasco assist.  Bondurant Farrar had three scoring chances stopped late in the first half by Perry keeper Anthony Aragon.

Leading 1-0 at the break, Perry broke open the game early in the second half with two goals just six minutes apart.  Rodriguez scored his second goal of the game on a beautiful left footed kick that beat the Bondu goalkeeper.   Brandon Juarez added a goal just a few moments later on an assist from Rodriguez.  The senior Rodriguez made his final game at Dewey field a memorable one by adding his third goal of the game late in the second half.

“It was a great feeling to get that last goal,” smiled Rodriguez in the KDLS post game show.  “We played a really strong second half and coach just told us to keep attacking and that the shots would eventually go.”

Rodriguez tied the school record for goals in a season set by his older brother.  The senior now has 27 goals this year.

“My brother was such a great role model so it’s great to keep the record in the family.  I’m more happy about returning to the state championship,”

Perry will play this Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the 2A state championships in Des Moines.  KDLS will provide play by play coverage beginning at 2:30.  The seeding and opponent will be announced later today.
