A Perry man was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Boone County District Court on sex abuse charges.
Fifty-three-year-old Daniel Duffy pled guilty to 3rd degree sexual abuse, a class C felony. Duffy, a former chiropractor, was arrested last July on charges stemming from incidents from 2005-2006 involving a sex act with a child between 12 and 15 years-old. He was initially arrested on two counts of 3rd degree sexual abuse and one count of 2nd degree sexual abuse. However, he reached a plea agreement for lesser charges.
Duffy had previously been convicted of simple assault stemming from an incident involving an adult female patient In 2010, which cost him his chiropractic license.
Ten years is the maximum sentence for 3rd degree sexual abuse, and Duffy will also be required to pay court costs, damages, and a civil penalty. Additionally, he has been put on lifetime parole and the lifetime sex-offender registry. The case was prosecuted by the Boone County Attorney’s Office on behalf of the State of Iowa. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Perry Police Department conducted the investigation.
