Heads up to Jefferson residents that some offices and businesses will be closed during the Memorial Day holiday.
Due to state budget cuts, the Clerk of Court offices in the state are closed today and will remain closed on Memorial Day. According to information from the Iowa Supreme Court, all court personnel, except for judges and magistrates, are required to take today as unpaid leave, which affects about 1,446 employees.
On Memorial Day, Jefferson City Hall, the Greene County Courthouse, the Greene County Chamber office, Greene County Community Center, Greene County Extension office, the Jefferson Public Library and post office will all be closed.
The Jefferson Library would like to remind everyone that nothing is due to the library when it is closed in observance of a holiday.
The City would like to remind its citizens that garbage and recycling routes will be delayed one day due to the holiday. That means garbage and recycling won’t be picked up on Monday and those routes will be moved to Tuesday, then Tuesday’s routes will be delayed to Wednesday and Wednesday’s routes will be collected on Thursday. Routes will return to normal the following week.
