With Memorial Day weekend coming up, that means area swimming pools will start to open for the summer season.
Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says the opening day for the pool is this Saturday. Pool hours for this Saturday through Memorial Day are from 11:30am to 1pm for adult lap swim. The pool will then be open from 1 to 5:30pm and family hour takes place from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Open swim will then be from 4 to 5:30pm from next Tuesday through Friday, June 2nd, with adult lap swim to remain the same from 11:30am to 1pm.
Another new addition to the pool this year will be a digital surveillance system. JPRD received a $5,502 Greene County Community Foundation grant earlier this year to purchase and install the equipment. Lautner says over the past couple of years, the pool has been vulnerable to break-ins and vandalism.
“I think to keep close tabs of our property, this surveillance system will be really nice. I’ll be able to see what’s going on from my phone. So if I do get a call from the police, I at least know what I’m getting myself into when I come into town.”
Cameras will be on all sides of the building and the cameras can also keep track of parts of Chautauqua Park.
