The Perry Police Department has identified the victim of the death investigation as 16-year-old Sabrina Ray.
An autopsy was performed Monday by the State Medical Examiner’s office, though the cause of death is still undetermined, pending further testing and gathering of information. The Iowa Department of Human Services is looking into the death as a child abuse case.
At around 6:30 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the home at 1708 1st Avenue regarding an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, they found Ray dead inside the home. According to the DHS, the home is a registered child development home and is licensed for 16 children. The day care is Rays of Sunshine and it is owned by Misty and Marc Ray. All other children who lived in the household are now in safe placement outside the home, according to a press release from the Perry Police Department. No further information has been released at this time.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa DHS are assisting in the investigation.
