Greene County Medical Center recently started using a new piece of technology to increase provider examination time with a patient.

Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt says the emergency room department is using the Telescribe program.

“So what happens is our providers come in, they sign into an iPad on a rolling cart, and this scribe from Fort Lauderdale, Florida appears on the screen and they roll the cart into the room when they’re going to see a patient. They do their assessment, they talk about what’s going on with the patient and the scribe is entering the patient’s information into the electronic medical record.”

The program is through Scribe America and the individuals that are the scribes are either interested in pursuing a career in the medical field or are already in medical school. Heldt says by using TeleScribe, a provider can have more time to examine a patient and do a hands-on assessment without being tied to the computer screen. Once the examine is over, the provider and the scribe follow up to make sure the patient information is accurately documented.

The program is available everyday from 9am to 9pm.
