One person was injured and damage was done to the Jefferson Fire Station following a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon.
According to the Jefferson Police Department, just after 3pm an officer responded to the crash at the intersection of Chestnut and Washington streets. The report shows that Kelly Wilson of Independence, Missouri was traveling north on Chestnut Street. She stopped at the posted stop sign and then proceeded to pull her 2015 GMC K-3500 truck into the intersection and struck the driver’s side of a westbound 2004 Ford F-150 truck that was driven by Tim Johnson of Jefferson.
Johnson was trying to regain control of his vehicle that was still heading west. Johnson stepped on the accelerator and brake pedal simultaneously. His truck then went into reverse and entered a yard at 100 East Washington Street. The vehicle then went into another yard at 102 East Washington Street before going back onto the street. Johnson then backed across the street and hit the northwest corner of the fire station.
Johnson was transported by Greene County Emergency Medical Services to Greene County Medical Center with possible injuries. Wilson was uninjured. Both individuals were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. Johnson’s vehicle was a total loss, Wilson’s vehicle sustained $2,000 in damages and the fire department estimated about $15,000 in damages to the building.
Wilson was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
