The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday morning in regular session.
The bulk of the meeting was dedicated to the canvass for the recent countywide special election regarding the $22.9 million bond referendum for the new law enforcement facility. County Auditor Julia Helm went through the canvass with the Supervisors, making sure every figure was double-checked by all three. In the end, the Board approved the canvass, which officially passes the bond referendum.
The vote still has one item left to examine, which is a recount for the fifth precinct of Clive. During the election, there was a jam in the machines at that location, which caused three ballots to be counted twice. Helm said the problem was caught and the ballots were counted correctly, but it’s standard procedure to recount in cases where there’s an error. Helm assured the Board the recount won’t affect the outcome.
Other topics addressed at the meeting included the approval of several resolutions, including: the final pay application for the emergency management renovation project; a 28E agreement with the Assessor’s Conference Board for building improvements; the annual weed notice, which included the addition of Palmer Amaranth; and a wetland mitigation credit purchase by Center Pointe Business Park.
They also tabled resolutions regarding contract negotiations for the Samuels Group to become the construction management for the new law enforcement facility, as well as the Auditor’s request for their real estate division to be moved from the courthouse to the election headquarters. Those items will be revisited at next week’s meeting.
