This Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and the Perry Police Department will be at Hy-Vee from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. accepting drugs for safe disposal.
They will be joined by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to give the public its 13th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft. The program allows people to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs, with no questions asked.
The last time the DEA held a mass drug take back day was last October, and people across the United States turned in 366 tons of prescription drugs. They remind people they cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps, but they can accept pills or patches. There is no cost to turn in the drugs, and it’s all done anonymously.
