It certainly was a busy week for the Panorama boys golf team this past week with four meets in seven days.
The work week for the Panthers ended off in Winterset at the Lakeview Country Club taking on a conference triangular with Van Meter and Earlham. Coach Hal Rossow’s squad played true to their fashion as the two time defending class 2A champs won Friday’s contest followed by Van Meter in second and Earlham in third. George Appleseth would earn top honors for the Panthers shooting a one under nine hole round of 34. That would run their conference record to 6-0 and their overall record to 24-0.
On Saturday, the Panthers would host a 9 team field in their weekend tournament which was comprised of the likes of Kuemper Catholic, a team currently ahead of Panorama in the class 2A team rankings ranked second in the entire class. The Kuemper Knights would do something no other team has been able to do this entire season so far, which is dethrone the Panthers for the top team spot. Carroll Kuemper would steal the top spot from Panorama with a team score of 317. Panorama’s slow start through the first nine holes put them off pace just a bit but they settled down in the back nine to snag second place for the meet with a score of 333. South Hamilton would come in at third place followed by Coon Rapids-Bayard in fourth, Audubon in fifth, while Earlham took sixth, West Central Valley snagged the seventh spot, rounded out with the Panorama JV team in 8th followed by ACGC in ninth.
Will Babcock would lead the Panthers on the day and continue his streak of earning a meet medal by taking a runner up medal with his 18 hole round of 78. Kolby Shackelford managed to shake off a not so hot front nine by earning par in the back nine to earn 79 on the day which was closely followed by George Appleseth’s 18 hole round of 80. Mitch Wagler would earn third on the team in scoring with a 96 on the day rounded out with Trey Cobb shooting a 97 through 18 and ending with Dylan Douglas notching a 125.
With the dust settling from Saturday’s action, the third ranked Panorama Panthers now sit with an overall record of 31-1 as they enter their next meet tomorrow back at the 5 x 80 Golf & Country Club.
