A reminder for motorists that use the overpass bridge on Highway 30 east of Grand Junction, it will be closed for construction starting tomorrow.
The project was initially delayed due to the contractor, Godbersen-Smith Construction, finishing up another bridge replacement project by Hyde Park in Greene County. It was then delayed by another week last week, while the contractor waited on a demolition permit through the Union Pacific Railroad, since two sets of tracks are under the 60 year-old bridge. The Department of Transportation held open public meetings in 2014 to incorporate Lincoln Highway Association designs into the new structure.
At the same time, the contractor will be replacing the West Beaver Creek bridge just east of the overpass bridge with a box culvert. The two projects together are over $7 million.
The official detour is from Iowa Highway 169 to Greene County Road E-26 to Iowa Highway 144. The county road under the overpass bridge, 222nd Street, will be closed for the duration of the replacement project.
The plate completion date for the projects is scheduled for November.
