Greene County Relay for Life’s main event is coming up this Saturday.
The event is from 9:30am to 2pm at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.
The day starts out with several activities at 9:30am including fundraising teams, Scrabble 5K run/walk and the survivors reception check-ins, along with the luminaria and the 50/50 raffle sales and silent auction bidding begins at 9:30. At 10:20am the survivor walk will begin. Raney points out that the survivors portion of the main event plays an important role.
“This is a big part of relay is to honor those people that have been battling cancer and we’re so happy that the Greene County Medical Center continues to be our sponsor. Any survivor is sure welcome to attend that day that we haven’t made a contact with. The money that we raise directly affects each one of those people.”
The 5K will start at 10:30am, followed by the Greene County Cattlemen and Pork Producers helping to grill for the barbecue meal from 11am to 1pm. There are several acts lined up for entertainment as well. Greene County Singers, Town and Country Band with the Greene County High School jazz band, Rhythm Room Dancers, Prairie Blue Creative Arts dancers and a surprise performance are included in the entertainment. The event then wraps up with the luminaria ceremony at 1:50pm.
