With the high school prom season in full stride, one more prom is happening this weekend in Greene County.
Paton-Churdan’s prom is this Saturday. The theme is “A Night in Hollywood.” Principal Annie Smith says the students are really excited about the theme.
“They wanted an elegant, glamourous type of night. Lots of gold, and lots of glitter and lots of glam, a true night in Hollywood. We’re really excited because our grand march this year is going to look different than it ever has before, really reflecting that theme of an entrance to a night in Hollywood.”
The event starts at 6pm with the public invited to view the decorations and take pictures at the school building in Churdan. Then at 7pm will be the grand march on the front lawn of the school, followed by formal pictures and the dinner being served between 7:30 and 8:15pm. From 8:15 to 11pm will be the dance in the school building. The event wraps up with after-prom festivities at a bowling alley in Fort Dodge. Smith points out that with student safety in mind, all students will travel together to post-prom.
“As a principal and as a mom, it is pretty nerve-racking knowing that we’re putting kids out on the road at such a late time. So it is really nice to be able to then have them all together knowing that they’re safe and that they can just focus on having fun and not have to worry about any of those other things.”
Post-prom activities include bowling, laser tag and drawings for prizes.
