Jefferson Police BadgeThe Jefferson Police Department recently released their 2016 report.

The Department saw a minimal increase in calls for service last year with 3,562 compared to 2015 with 3,549 calls. Half of the calls for service were public service in nature for a total of 1,805 calls. Of those calls for service, 20-percent, or 374 calls, were animal-related. The reports shows that the police department saw a 105-percent increase in man hours compared to 2015 for casino-related calls for service.

Thirty-eight-percent, or 1,336 calls, were criminal calls for service, which was a three-percent increase. Police Chief Mark Clouse noted that several sub-categories all saw increases. Theft reports were up 27-percent over the previous year. Officers filed 61 drug related charges in 2016, which was a 53-percent increase and 32 arrests were made in 2016 for domestic abuse, which doubled from 2015. Burglary calls also went up in 2016 with 95 calls for service, compared to 65 in 2015.

Finally, 12-percent of their total calls for service last year were traffic-related. Clouse says there were 123 property damage accidents, 12 personal injury accidents and 26 hit and run accidents, which were all increases over 2015 figures.
