The Charger girls and boys track teams may have been competing at different locations yesterday, but the results turned out to be quite similar with a pair of third place team finishes.
Head coach Dave Spratte and the Lady Chargers were on the road in the annual Bondurant-Farrar Lady Jays Invite where they cruised to a second place finish. The Charger boys were on the road as well but found themselves in Jefferson at the annual Ram Relays, walking away with a third place finish.
The Lady Chargers had an eight team field to go up against which was even harder given the fact that the field was comprised of the likes of class 3A’s Pella high school. Pella would in fact win the meet notching 197 points with ACGC behind them in second place with 105 points. The distance events were as strong as ever for the Lady Chargers earning four out of the teams thirteen top five performances. Emma Swanson ran away with the 800 meter crown clocking in at 2:35.88 while Kate Crawford out did her third place performance in the 1500 meter run with a first place finish in the 3000.
The Charger boys team came off of spring break strong with a third place finish out of 8 teams in the annual Ram Relays. Raccoon River Conference teams Boone and Carroll would be the only teams to precede the Chargers taking first and second place respectively. Individually there were no first place finishers but there were three second place performers, all not surprisingly, in the distance events. Logan Scheuerman had yet to earn a finish outside the top 10 in the 800 all season and certainly didn’t start last night scraping away second place while Landon Foster and Noah Nelson went back to back for second and third places in the 1600. Cale Billheimer walked away from the meet just seven seconds short of first place in the 3200 meter run. ACGC’s 4 x 800 meter relay team walked away as the sole first place event for ACGC clocking in at 8:53.31.
Both boys and girls Charger squads will hit the road once more tomorrow finding themselves at West Central Valley high school with a 4:30 pm meet time.
