Earl and Jeff Hafner of Early Morning Harvest in Panora are hoping their farm can serve as a training ground for an aspiring farmer during the 2017 growing season.
The Hafners are among 14 farmers from around the state who have committed to hire an employee through the Practical Farmers of Iowa Labor4Learning program. Along with a paid on-farm job, they’ll provide the candidate with additional training essential to being a successful farmer.
Early Morning Harvest is a diverse operation with enterprises including cow/calf pairs, finishing hogs, aquaponics, laying hens, small grains and row crops, a flour mill, and seed cleaning.
The job opening at Early Morning Harvest has flexible hours starting now and going through December. Work activities will include all aspects of the farm such as livestock responsibilities, operating equipment, working with the flour mill and running the seed cleaner. In addition to these, the Hafners will work with the employee to develop a set of learning outcomes that address important issues for running a farm business.
