Greene County High School’s prom is this Saturday.
Advisor Teresa Green says this year’s theme is “A Night in the Big Apple” a New York City-style prom. The banquet and dance will take place at the Greene Room events center at Wild Rose in Jefferson. The public is invited to view the decorations from 4 to 5pm. Decorations include uplighting along the walls, a cityscape and skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge outside the events center. Inside will be six-foot tall letters spelling out “PROM”, fabric-covered lit columns with white lights, and black tablecloths with black fabric-covered chairs.
Students will begin the evening with “A Walk Through Time Square” with the grand march through the courthouse from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Students will walk to the southside and by the Mahanay Bell Tower, where they will get in their vehicles and head to the events center. In case of inclement weather, the grand march will be at the Greene County Community Center.
Students will then enjoy a garden salad and pasta bar banquet, followed by dancing. The menu includes choice of spaghetti or fettuccine noodles, meatballs or grilled chicken with alfredo or marinara sauce, along with breadsticks. Dessert is a New York Cheesecake station.
This year’s entertainment is Laura Ernest of Kinetic Entertainment. She performed on “America’s Got Talent” and will provide a variety show. Students will have the opportunity to text their pictures to be displayed on two big screens in the events center.
Once the dance ends at 11:30pm, after-prom will take place at the middle school gym, with the doors locked at midnight.
