In Monday’s special meeting, the Perry School Board narrowed the superintendent candidate field from six to two and both finalists have ties to the Perry School District.

Tuesday the School Board announced Shaun Kruger and Clark Wicks were the two candidates that caused a deadlock among the Board, resulting in additional interviews in the coming weeks. Kruger currently serves as the Perry Middle School principal, a position he’s held since 2005. Wicks is the superintendent for the Orient-Macksburg School District, who from 1989-2012 served as the Perry Elementary School principal. The Board felt both men were good choices to succeed retiring Superintendent Lynn Ubben, and couldn’t come to a consensus at the Monday night meeting.

While the Board had originally intended to name and introduce the new superintendent at their April 10th meeting, the deadlock means they will bring Kruger and Wicks back for one last interview session on April 13th. That meeting will be a closed session with only board members present. After the interviews, the Board will reconvene that evening to make a final decision. The choice will not be made public until the candidate has accepted the position.
