The Perry boy’s soccer team passed an early test last night defeating Winterset 2-1 in the Raccoon River Conference opener for both.  German Alvarenga launched the game winning goal from 35 yards out midway through the second half to give Perry the 2-1 win.  Winterset scored late in the first half only to see Perry counter 4 minutes later as Alex Castenada found the back of the net just as the first half clock expired to tie the game at 1.

“Winterset has really pushed us the past couple of years,” added Perry Head Coach Gary Overla.  “This has turned into a really good rivalry.  The game reflected that especially in the second half as it was pretty rough and physical.”

Perry improves to 3-1 on the season and will continue their Raccoon River Conference trek Thursday night with a road trip to Carlisle.  Perry will travel to Urbandale Saturday to face both Urbandale and Dowling Catholic.
