Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation gave away over $1.4 million in grants Tuesday night at the Greene Room events center at Wild Rose.
Groups that received an automatic amount include the contiguous counties each getting over $42,000, the seven municipalities in the county, the two school districts, four pledges to organizations and seven competitive grants.
The competitive grants alone were over $500,000. Those funds went to the Greene County Trail Development Group for $35,000 for signage on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, $36,775 went to the Grand Junction Senior Housing committee to rehabilitate apartments, the City of Scranton received $40,000 to repair their historic water tower, Greene County Supervisors for $55,000 toward their stained glass courthouse rotunda dome project, $80,000 for the Churdan Library’s building expansion project, Greene County E-911 Board received $104,635 to upgrade radios for the Jefferson Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s office and $150,000 went to the Greene County Youth Athletic Association for facilities and equipment purchases. Being the largest recipient of the night, Youth Athletic Association President Jamie Daubendiek told Raccoon Valley Radio what his initial reaction was when they learned how much they received.
“Yeah I was blown away. It was pretty cool and I was shaken a little bit trying to talk up there. Super excited about the opportunity in front of us and look forward to great things and obviously thank you to Grow Greene County for believing in our project as well.”
In just two years, Grow Greene County has given away almost $2.5 million. A complete list of the recipients, the amounts they received and what they will use the money on can be found below.
