New Greene County head football coach told Raccoon Valley Radio he was very pleased with the turnout, energy level, and effort, he saw this past week from his prospective players during a conditioning program he called “Commitment Week.” Workouts were held at 6 a.m. March 20-24 at The Jefferson Field House on a voluntary basis, and more than 60 young men in grades 9-12 for the 2017 season attended.
The coach said, “We’re trying to develop some consistency and some mental toughness. We’re showing the guys urgency, attention to time and detail, and showing them how we’re going to work, and how we’re going to approach every day. We’ve been really big on talking about winning the rep, whether that’s a high-knee run in warm-up, or completing your shuttle hurdle, or whatever we’re doing, we want to win the rep.”
Coach Moore added that Spring football is not legal in Iowa, so these workouts were conditioning on a voluntary basis with no footballs present. He added, “We are teaching the simple things, such as the HOW part of doing things. I think that’s as big as anything, and Man, our kids have been receptive. They’ve done a fantastic job of believing in me and trusting in me. I think we’ve done a tremendous job this first week of starting to earn each other’s trust, and our seniors have done a great job of being leaders; they really have!”
