The Greene County High School faculty and staff gave a presentation to the school board on Wednesday.
Principal Brian Phillips said that the percentage of students with D and F grades have been steadily dropping since 2015. That year, just over 14 percent of students had D’s and F’s. So far in 2017, the percentage dropped to under ten percent. Student attendance has also been increasing each trimester.
Other topics that were covered included creating a positive environment for students, creating “writing rights” where in every classroom the standard for writing is the same and creating rubrics and self-evaluations for students to help them improve overall. The Board also learned about a new program called Freshmen Focus. Freshmen students can meet six to eight times to discuss topics that concern them.
Finally, the Board also learned about another new program with the video production class. Students in the class produce a weekly program called Ram News. Students get to interview other students and staff about school-related topics and sports, along with shooting video every week for a news program.
