Fire crews responded to the call of several hay bales on fire at 12:30pm at 1606 267th Street, south of Jefferson Wednesday.
Derek Bauer with the Jefferson Fire Department says when they arrived on scene, some hay bales were completely engulfed in flames. Due to the number of hay bales on fire, Grand Junction Fire Department also responded for mutual aid. Bauer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they had four trucks shuttling back and forth from Greenwood Homes with water tankers bringing water to help put out the flames.
A cause hasn’t been determined, but Bauer doesn’t believe there to be any evidence of a suspicious fire. A total amount of damage also hasn’t been determined. No one was hurt in the incident and the Greene County Sheriff’s office assisted at the scene.
According to the Greene County Assessor’s real estate page, the property is owned by Dale and Connie Betts of Jefferson.
