The fluctuation of temperatures in March can make it very difficult on high school track coaches, at least most of them. Perry Girls track coach Matt Hardy has taken the guessing game out of practice and has decided to do his workouts outdoors no matter the temperature.
“We pretty much go outdoors all the time. I communicated with them strongly early in practice that the only way to get better is go outdoors. It’s really not easy to get good workouts indoors. They don’t allow us to run hallways anymore so we are relegated to gym space when forced indoors. We have expectations to dress warm and prepare to head outside every day. The girls have a tough mindset to overcome the cold and realize if we want to get better, we have to go outside.”
Perry will get their first dose of outdoor competition next week with the running of the Davis Relays.
