GregersenThe Iowa Court of Appeals upheld the conviction of Cory Gregersen of Guthrie County Wednesday.

In September of 2015 Gregersen told his wife he wanted to kill himself, walked to the bedroom and placed a shotgun in his mouth. While his wife was outside of the room, Gregersen fired the shotgun at the floor. She came running into the room and asked Gregersen to stop. She then called her father, who told her to leave the house. When Gregersen asked why she called her father, she said “Because I am scared.” While she was outside the house waiting for her father to pick her up, Gregersen fired another shot from inside.

The State charged Gregersen with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony. Gregersen pled guilty to a lesser charge of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class D felony. The court gave Gregerson a suspended sentence and placed him on probation for five years.

Gregersen appealed the case based upon the idea that his actions were not threatening to his wife. The court denied the appeal based upon her testimony and her actions demonstrating she was afraid.
