Legalization of fireworks is something District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman has been working on since becoming a lawmaker in 2013.
Chapman says they have made great progress with the bill and he believes this is the year it will be done.
“I can tell you I believe we have the numbers. I believe we had the numbers last year to pass it but unfortunately it just didn’t come up for a floor vote. But I believe we have the votes to pass it this year. The House already passed it last year so I’m very optimistic that this is the year fireworks become legal in Iowa.”
Senate File 236 would allow fireworks to be used between June 1st and July 8th and December 10th through January 3rd.
A recent poll shows 65 percent of Iowans support legal fireworks, while 29 percent are opposed and seven percent aren’t sure.
