The West Central Valley girls track and field team is just two days removed from a more than solid outing in Waverly at Wartburg College.
The night consisted of 7 top five finishes which in turn consisted of 3 from senior Kristen Culp, 2 from Jenna Merical, one from Gillian Stanley, and one from girls basketball top scorer Grace Dupuy. All in all 13 top thirty finishes came from the Lady Wildcat track and field team in just their second meet of the season.
There’s no doubting the success earned for the Lady Wildcats in the young season and there’s certainly a lot of things that have made up that success, but the one thing that head track coach Mike Vokes feels has been the real driving force is the teams attitude.
“I really like our team this year, I really like their attitude here early in the season. They’ve just come together as a group and just said hey gosh we want to make track a good thing, they really want to have fun while doing it. Really top to bottom, seniors down to freshmen they just all really put in a good effort and have great attitudes in practice day in and day out so that’s been really good for this group of kids. Attitude and effort for me, (are) things you can’t really coach so if your group has that, it goes a long way,” stated coach Vokes.
