The Greene County School Board recently approved the 2017-18 school calendar.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says the calendar for next school year is similar to the current calendar. However there are challenges every year when figuring out the calendar.
“We operate under hours (instead of days). But that does present a little bit of a challenge. Even though we’re on hours, at the high school, in order to get Carnegie units with our trimester, we’re pretty tough as far as days and everything, that we need about every day, every hour in for the high school.”
The 2017-18 school year will start on Wednesday, August 23rd and the last day is May 23, 2018. Spring break will continue to be in the middle of March and early dismissals on Wednesdays will also continue. Faculty spends time each Wednesday early dismissal working on professional development.
“For the most part, the teachers really like that. Again professional learning communities is the concept that we operate under. Teacher collaboration, they’re growing with that every single year and making better use of that time. So overall, I’d say it’s a positive.”
The School Board approved the calendar at their regular February meeting.
