Greene County Activities Director Dean Lansman spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio about the 2016-17 varsity boys’ basketball season. The Rams went 14-8 overall and 13-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, good for second place in the nine-team league. Chris Nelson completed his first season as the Rams’ head coach, and the 2002 Jefferson-Scranton High School graduate was assisted by Chad Morton, the former longtime Rams girls’ head coach.

The winning season was the first in the five seasons the Rams have played as Greene County. “It was a good season. Some of the losses we had on the front end of the season were really close and could have really gone either way, so three or four of those could have been in our win column, but overall, it was a great job by everyone. All the seniors (eight) contributed throughout the year. They all knew their role, including those that hadn’t gone out for a year or two. It was a fun season and I know Coach Nelson appreciates all the hard work all the kids put in. We’re obviously looking to build on this and look to improvement and get even more victories.
